Maud Emily Chandler (1906 - 1906)

Somebody drew my attention to this broken child's headstone in St Edburg's cemetery, so I decided to do some research...

Maud Emily Chandler's birth was registered in Bicester in the 2nd quarter of 1906 - she was the daughter of William Edward Chandler and his wife Emily, née Scarrott, who had married in 1901.

Little Maud's death was sadly recorded in Bicester 3 months later. It doesn't look as if her parents had anymore children, although I shall keep looking!

William died at 79 Sheep Street, Bicester, in 1921, and was also buried in St Edburg's cemetery. Emily has been a little more difficult to trace... She outlived her husband, and was lodging with relatives Albert and Rosie Scarrott at 3 Spring Gardens, Bicester, in 1939. I haven't been able to track down a death record for her as of yet.

By looking at Maud's headstone, it is clear to see that her parents felt her loss keenly. We can only hope that those responsible for the cemetery ensure that her headstone is either replaced, or securely moved to another spot.
